MTV, Proudly South African and You Decide as headline partners

Johannesburg, 24 February 2016: The annual Sunday Times Generation Next Youth Marketing Conference, Interactive Brand Showcase, Awards Ceremony, and inaugural U18’s party has been confirmed to be taking place at the Pavilion, Sandton Convention Centre on Friday 10 June 2016.

“Now in its 12th year, Generation Next is getting bigger and better,” says Trevor Ormerod, GM Sales and Marketing at Times Media. “This year we’re expanding on the success of last year’s Youth Marketing Conference and Interactive Brand Showcase, and hosting our first Sunday Times Generation Next U18’s party. It will follow the Awards extravaganza, where the youth can celebrate and have fun in a safe and appropriate environment.”

Since 2004, Times Media has commissioned HDi Youth Marketeers to conduct the Generation Next Survey which polls youths aged 8 – 22 on what they believe to be “cool” or aspirational. The survey is conducted across more than 70 categories to determine the youth perception of brands, products, and celebrity.

The results of the survey are particularly relevant to brands and advertisers, with the Generation Next Youth Marketing Conference, Interactive Brand Showcase and Awards Ceremony attracting the attendance of SA’s leading business minds and marketers. The Awards Ceremony in particular is increasingly where local celebrities choose to be seen, bringing glamour and huge appeal for their youth fan-base.

As a result of the ever-increasing popularity of the Sunday Times Generation Next event and the announcement of the first U18’s party, companies such as Proudly South African, MTV, and You Decide, an organisation that aims to discourage under-age drinking have already cemented their early participation as joint headline partners.

Ormerod says, “We’re delighted that we’ve secured the participation and commitment of these great brands, and look forward to working with them, as well as other companies who would also wish to be part of the Sunday Times Generation Next movement.”
