The top ten braai recipe finalists in the Sunday Times Goodlife Taste Experience battled it out at the Capsicum Culinary School in Rosebank on 29 March, to determine who could deliver the best braai meal in under sixty minutes, and the winners have been announced!

The winning recipe came from Boitumelo Theo Tseleng and Lesego Tseleng from Johannesburg for their traditional braai chicken, pap and chakalaka. Their first prize includes a cash prize of R8 000, and a Gautrain gift card pre-loaded with R1 000.

The second place runners up were Gresham Madhan and Colleen Oliver from Durban, who prepared their ‘Off the rails braai’d snoek’. They went home with a cash prize of R5 000, and a Gautrain gift card pre-loaded with R500.

Illona Greef and Delphine van Reels from Johannesburg claimed third place with their ‘Turtles on the fast track’ recipe. They were awarded with a cash prize of R2 000, as well as a Gautrain gift card pre-loaded with R200.

Each winning pair as well as the remaining eight finalists also walked away with a bottle of wine, an Otima hamper, Nova products, a Weber Limited Edition Braai Cookbook and a gift from Capsicum.

The Ultimate Braai Master, Justin Bonello, presented a braai masterclass during the 60-minute cook-off. He also joined the adjudication panel of Hilary Biller (Sunday Times Food Editor), Dr Barbara Jensen (Senior Executive Manager, Communication & Marketing, Gautrain Management Agency), and Willem Boonzaier (2018 winner of the Sunday Times Goodlife Gautrain Taste Experience) in deciding this year’s champion.

This is the third year that the Gautrain Management Agency has partnered with the Sunday Times Goodlife brand to present an event that ties into the lifestyle benefits that the Gautrain provides local and international commuters in Gauteng…a safe, fast journey that allows them to enjoy more of their day. Previous Gautrain partnerships with Sunday Times Goodlife include the Healthy Recipe (2017), and Dessert Recipe (2018) contests.
